VCPR Statement

At Country Companions Veterinary Services, we are committed to maintaining a valid and active veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) so that we can provide the highest standard of care for your companion animals. As defined by the AVMA, a VCPR is the professional relationship between you, your animal(s), and your veterinarian. It exists when your veterinarian knows your animal well enough, typically through a recent physical examination or regular visits, to make informed decisions about the animal’s health. This relationship is the foundation of safe and effective veterinary care. It must be in place before your veterinarian can diagnose a condition, prescribe medication, or treat your animal.

Under this relationship:

  • We must have the ability to examine your pet and obtain their health history, establish a diagnosis or assessment, and offer a treatment plan.

  • You, as the client, must agree to follow the recommended treatment and care protocols and provide the necessary information about your pet’s condition to remain in good standing.

  • Your pet must be available for follow-up or ongoing care as needed, and regular check-ups and vaccinations should be maintained.

  • Only through an active VCPR can we responsibly prescribe, dispense, or recommend medications and make health care decisions in their best interest.

Please note:

  • Our non-emergency service commitments (including prescribed treatments or wellness care) apply only to pets or livestock for whom this VCPR is in good standing.

  • If your pet has not been seen for a wellness exam or vaccinations within the past 12 months, we may require a full wellness visit before offering some services.

  • Emergency services are available based on our on-call policy outside of regular business hours.

  • It is preferable if you can transport your livestock to our office for quicker treatment. We cannot guarantee that we can provide immediate emergency care to patients who require mobile services.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this essential practice standard. It ensures safe, effective, and personalized health care for your pet and strengthens the trust and communication between you and our team.
